Helping homeless children and families from the City of Fredericksburg & the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford Donate

Patsy

Patsy had been living with her husband of 18 years when she discovered that he had not been paying the mortgage or any other bills and writing bad checks. They were evicted from their home. Patsy's husband abandoned the family and left them a large amount of debt.

Patsy and her 14 year old son were forced to go to the local homeless shelter. While at the shelter her vehicle was repossessed this made it difficult to get back and forth to work. Her son was experiencing some health problem due to diabetes and asthma. She was also struggling to pay her debts.  After she was referred to Hope House and accepted into our program, Patsy and her son moved into Hope House in May of 2005.

The services provided to Patsy and her son was abundant. Once settled in and orientated to the program, intensive case management began. Together with her case worker she developed an Individual Service Plan that focused on the goals she wanted to accomplish in the two years she would be at Hope House.  Patsy worked hard and she met or exceeded all of her goals, attended every educational class and became a positive role model for other women in the house.

Today, Patsy remains self-sufficient and living in permanent housing. Ten months after graduating from the program successfully, she was debt free. She remains in contact with Hope House and acts as a mentor to the mothers who have joined us since she left. She volunteers by providing transportation for residents to job interviews or other appointments.
