It will be a chilly weekend, but there are some fun things to do in town this weekend. Here are some staff picks.
1. Trees of Hope exhibit
Loisann's Hope House holds this fun event every year. Check out Christmas trees decorated in all different ways. The exhibit will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at UMW's Jepson Alumni Center.
2.Christian Youth Theater performs "A Christmas Carol" this weekend
They may range in age from 8 to 18, but these performers from Fredericksburg's Christian Youth Theater are just as professional as any of their adult counterparts. On Friday, the group will provide an early jump-start to holiday cheer with their production of A Christmas Carol: The Musical. Check out the days and times of the show here.
The Bumper Jacksons take several different streams of early American music and spin them in a way only they can to create something new. They'll be at A. Smith Bowman Distillery 7:30 p.m. Saturday as part of the Music & Spirits Concert Series.
4. The Down Home Ball
Saturday, the Fredericksburg community greenspace, Downtown Greens, will be hosting their 18th annual Down Home Ball, where families have the option of dressing up or hoeing it down and still have a good time. It's 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday at The Recreation Center in Fredericksburg. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and can be purchased at LibertyTown, Riverby Books and The Recreation Center.
5. Merry Market at The Old Silk Mill
Vendors will offer a variety of unique and custom items from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $4 in advance of $5 at the door.
6. Colonial Dinner in Culpeper
Colonial re-enactors will cook and offer tastings of the food and time period. It runs 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday at the Burgandine House in Culpeper.
7. Fredericksburg Brewhaha
There will be beer, wine and food pairings Saturday as a fundraiser for the Mary Washington Healthcare Regional Cancer Center, Saturday. Food pairings will be 5:30-9, Cheese Pairing 5:30-7:15, dessert paring 7:30-9:15. There will be live music and games. Tickets are $75 per person, $140 per couple in advance and $85 per person and $160 per couple at the door. It will be at J.F. Fick, Inc, 224 Industrial Court.
8. Book Sale at England Run Library
Restock your reading supply, or pick up a few holiday gifts at the England Run Library book sale in Stafford. It's 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday, 1-5:30 p.m. Sunday.
9. Bad Movie Night
Adventure Brewing Co. is hosting a bad movie night Saturday. The "Aztec Mummy vs. The Robot" will begin at 10 p.m. and the brewery will offer snacks and sell pitchers of beer.
10.Robert Krantz and the premiere of â€œChristmas with the Karountzosesâ€
The Nativity of the Theotokos will host Robert Krantz and the Virginia premiere of his film "Christmas with the Karountzoses" Sunday in the fellowship hall. Krantz wrote The New York Times Best Seller "Falling in Love With Sophia" and wrote and starred in the film "Do Ya Wanna Dance?" Tickets are $20.
